Tips from Celebrity Stylist Sarah Potempa
Take a few hairsyle tips from celebrity stylist Sarah Potempa as she shares simple tips for quick updos, easy time-saving solutions for hairdos on-the-go and more!
Sleep On It
Mornings are hectic for most moms, between making lunches and getting your kids off to school, who has time to devote to hair? Let your hair do the work for you... while you're sleeping!
For natural waves, Sarah recommends applying Aussie Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner and blow drying hair with a round brush. Next, bobby pin hair in circular patterns. Believe it or not, the pins are easy to sleep in and will help create soft waves in the morning!
NOTE: You can pin as few as three curls (for a loose wave) and multiple curls for a tighter curl!
Another option: If you wear your hair tightly wrapped at night, give it a break. Apply Aussie Catch the Wave Mousse + Leave in Conditioner at night and blow-dry smooth with a paddle brush. Sleep with your hair down to avoid damage from your ponytail holder or kinks, and wake up with soft, touchable hair.
Sarah Potempa's Favorite evening Looks
To get super easy party hair in only a few steps, it is helpful to style your hair the day after shampooing. Freshly washed hair can often be too soft and slick to create a lasting updo. The day after shampooing, your scalp has had time to produce natural oils that will assist in the styling of these great looks by eliminating fly-aways and securing the hair in place!
Loose Waves
On naturally straight hair, this is a simple, sexy look that can be dressed up, or dressed down. It works
well with softer, sweet personalities to add excitement and movement to the look.
To achieve this look, add a strong, but natural finish mousse, such as Aussie's Opposites Attract Styling Mousse, to dry roots and loosely blow dry up. Separate hair and wrap two-inch hair
sections around the closed one-inch iron like a candy cane.
Remember: wrap away from the face! This is how you get the most flattering wave; otherwise it looks like a banana curl. Run fingers through hair and separate.
Teased Do
For a classy, sophisticated, but stylish 'do, start by creating a center part. Tease in one direction and secure with Aussie's Opposites Attract hairspray. Smooth over with boar bristle/nylon brush
and twist ends and secure with bobby pins. Don't be afraid of letting loose pieces fall and create a messy twist in the back. This look is all about the clean center part on straight hair!
Rumpled Bun
This look on naturally straight hair needs a boost! Add a strong, flexible mousse to dry hair. Sarah recommends Aussie's Opposites Attract Styling Mousse. Make sure to apply right at the roots.
Blow dry straight up to add volume and texture. (You don't even need a brush for this one!)
To create the height on top and the smooth tight sides, you will need to create two ponytails. First, pull the sides smooth and low into a ponytail. Then loosely tease the top (only in a downward motion) and secure into another ponytail. Twist hair from both ponytails together into messy bun and bobby pin in place.
Kid Proof Your Up-Do
Here's one for you, moms! Keep your hair out of your face and out of your kids' fingers with this sophisticated, yet simple ponytail. Stylist Sarah Potempa recommends using a small flat iron to smooth out any waves around the hairline. Then spray Aussie Hi-Hold + Hi-Shine Hairspray directly onto a flat brush (preferably a nylon/boar bristle) to smooth the hair and add a quick layer of shine to the ponytail.
Remember: Tilt your head back while securing the ponytail -- this will give a polished smooth finish that will last all day.
