When it comes to finding that perfect hairstyle, women with oval faces have it the easiest because they can sport just about anything. It also means they have the most choices. Where to begin? We asked New York hairstylist and salon owner Paul Labrecque to sound off on what's best for oval face shapes:

Your face is oval if: It's widest at the cheekbones and slightly tapered at the forehead and jaw.

What looks best on oval face shapes: You're a lucky gal! With an oval face, anything goes. It's the most versatile of shapes. "When [hairstylists] are cutting any other face shape, we're always trying to make the face more oval," Labrecque says.

What to avoid

Though oval faces can carry nearly any style and cut, women should still take their facial features into consideration. Women with large noses, for example, shouldn't part hair in the middle. Instead, opt for a dramatic side part, Labrecque says. The asymmetry will take attention away from the nose.
High foreheads should be camouflaged with bangs, and prominent cheekbones can be softened with gentle, wispy layers around the ears.

Trend to try

Pixie cuts are hot right now, and they look best on women with oval faces. Celebs including Carey Mulligan, Emma Watson and Halle Berry prove that cropped hair can still be feminine. Labrecque describes the ideal look as gamine: soft and playful. There's a stylish crop for every comfort level, so you can go choppy and ultra short or leave enough length so that hair can be tucked behind ears.

Need some inspiration? Look to these celebrities with oval face shapes:

Leah Michele

Oval face shapes with a high forehead should use this "Glee" star's secret weapon – bangs. Michele wears them swept to the side for a shot of glamour, but other times she pulls them straight down, leaving them piece-y and airy yet still able to conceal the forehead.

Carey Mulligan

If you've got the ideal face shape, flaunt it with a cropped or pixie cut. If you're going super short, think wispy, feminine and soft. Leave a few inches of length on the top, like Mulligan's coif, and add texture with a styling paste.

Cameron Diaz

Oval face shapes pull off center parts better than any other face shape. Go for symmetry like Diaz often does. A center part looks simple and stunning with long layers, but it can stick around in a ponytail, too. It's a stylish break from a slicked-back look.
